To be precise the installer declared victory, but on attempting to access the newly installed maps MapSource crashed. The Good News: Using MapSetToolKit as described in worked, though with an intermediate program failing.

In spite of its alleged failure, the newly installed maps seem to work fine (true, with so far minimal testing). The Expected News: As expected coverage has increased substantially, but as expected there are still many large holes. Games American Army there.

Coverage is improving, summer is still some time away, and the price is right! No idea what your problem was, but there is a new update dated Aug. Since it is only ten days after the previous update I suspect that it may be a bug fix. Note that there is a German notice claiming that the maps are not available, had no problem downloading the map.

This strengthens my feeling that it is a bug update; the previous maps may have been made unavailable before the new ones were installed. I am back in the States and have put my US maps on my Garmin, it is a slow process so I will not test the new Swiss maps on my GPS. They look fine on the computer. Some people might be interested to know that you don't have to download the whole country or wait for the 'latest version' - if you want to (and are willing to expend a bit more effort), you can make an extract of openstreetmap data for just the area you want to an osm file, convert to img and then copy over on to the GPS (I use a Garmin etrex hcx). So now, before I go for a hike, I just make an extract of the rectangle I want, and just copy that bit over. It's still slow, but up-to-the-minute.

The bonus is that it works for other countries and cross-border areas too.
